Recently, I had taken a photography class and asked the instructor about getting variety when it comes to photographing your own kids. She said that it’s true that there will be a lot of redundancy, but I’ll notice subtle changes. Like, how your child will go from eating their food in cut up in little pieces to full size or how they’ll transition from using their hands when they eat to using silverware.
I was grateful for this perspective because I was beginning to let the repetitive nature of our daily routine (breakfast, the park, the sandbox, reading, riding his bike or trike, nap time, bath time and repeat…) stifle my desire to photograph. So, here’s to appreciating the subtleties.
